Wince Mayabb, father of Kevin and Walt Mayabb, husband of Lola Mayabb, and father of 191 Speedway lost his life Saturday night due to injuries sustained in an accident in front of the track entrance.
Words can’t describe the sadness that is felt throughout the Mayabb family and racing community. Wince was one of the most generous and kind hearted people that you could ever meet. He never failed to help anyone in need and was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what the situation. He was known at the track for his peacemaking ability and taking care of all the racers and fans to make sure they had anything and everything they needed to have a good time. He demonstrated a tireless work ethic that was unimaginable. His track duties took him to the front gate to help with parking cars last night where the accident occurred.
It was his dream, along with Walt and Kevin, to build a track in our small town of Campton, KY. The dream began some five years ago and finally became a reality in the fall of 2009 when 191 Speedway hosted two races at the end of the season. The track’s inaugural season began in the spring of 2010. Crowds started out small but began to grow at an enormous rate. No one would have ever dreamed that 191 Speedway would be this big this quick. With the hard work and dedication of the staff at 191 the track is getting bigger crowds every week. Wince got to see the biggest crowd in the history of 191 Speedway before he passed away.
We are all very saddened by the loss but Wince was at the place he dreamed about, doing what he loved to do, surrounded by his family and friends. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. We wish he could have seen more racing action at the place he loved, but we know that he will be watching all of the races from up above, probably sitting in one of his old water trucks with a big grin on his face.
Visitations for Wince Mayabb will be on Tuesday August 31, 2010 from 5:00 until ?? at the Porter & Son Funeral home in Campton, KY. The funeral will be held on Wednesday September 1, 2010 at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Wince Mayabb Memorial Fund at Farmers And Traders Bank in Campton.

191 Speedway will be hosting a potluck dinner at the track on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 pm to remember Wince. All racers, fans, friends, and anyone else are invited. Plans are to sit around and enjoy a great meal and just celebrate the life of one of the finest people that has ever lived. We hope everyone can come out and support our family during this trying time.
He and my uncle Kenny both lost their lives doing what they loved. May you rest in peace Wince, and may God put a soothing hand on each broken heart in this sorrowful time.
Our prayers go out to the Mayabb Family and hope the healing process is a speedy one. We, like all racing fans, are extremely proud of the 191 Speedway and what it has brought to the region. Wince, was a tireless worker for the track and smiled anytime the Speedway was mentioned in conversation. I am glad he got to see the track become the best in the region while he was there. God Bless the Mayabb family, and know that the entire racing community have your family in our hearts and minds. RIP Wince Mayabb
We are saddened by the loss of a true friend. Wince will be missed by the entire racing community but there are no words to describe the heartache that is felt by our family. Martin and Wince were very close. They met many years ago at the race track and continued their friendship and racing journey from that point forward.
Wince was such a generous person and truly cared about people. He loved being at the track and worked long hard hours to make his dream become reality. 191 Speedway will never be the same without him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mayabb family.
Roe Family,

I try not to miss a Saturday night at 191. Some nights are great, some nights there are no words to describe. Last night was one of those nights. To continue doing what you love, and to show your loyalty to the sport that you have made a dream in Wolfe County left many of us speechless. I offer my deepest condolances to the Mayabb family, and may God hold you close and comfort you not only in these tragic times, but always. I hope every one can attend the visitation and show our support to Wince one last time. Lets all pull together as a community and show our love and support to the Mayabb family Tuesday.
James

Wince was a man of great rareity…No more do you find a person such as Wince in this world, A person that was truely giving, hardworking, tireless at pursueing a dream not only for himself, not only for his family, but for his community, and loved and respected by so many people. Wince has had a great impact on so many people’s lives. I am glad that Wince got the chance to follow his heart and do something he wanted. I am only sad that we won’t get to share moments with him, moments of success, of all the people coming out to the races, all the smiles from him while driving the water truck, all the pats on the back from his buddies….moments like that is what is gone. I only wish I could have said Thank you to Wince, for being such a good friend to my dad! My dad loved him! Wince will be watching. He’ll be guiding Kevin and Walt to do what’s needed, and holding Lola’s hand along the entire way..so when we are at the races, lets all take a moment to look up and smile so Wince knows we have him right there with us!
My dad Keith was one who loved nothing more than to head out to 191 speedway every saturday evening. He was passionate about what Wince and the boys had done for the drivers and fans.He was deeply saddened about this tragic loss, such a loyal, dedicated, hard working man.He is the champion of 191 speedway. As well as his two wonderful boys he done a remarkable job raising.Such strong leaders to our fans, just look at how many young men at the track will always remember how strong those brothers had to be for there dads dream to fulfill that night. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with you boys and your family. As Wince fulfilled his dream he also fulfilled many others dreams.Thank you Wince Mayaab,’A GREAT LEADER’

The time for me to know Wince was far too short!!! The first conversation was about where the in field of the race track now sits. This was late April 2001. On behalf of my wife Phyllis Moore and late mother-in-law Irene Moore, Wince and Walt were too help me finish the road up the branch in order for Mansbach Salvage of Ashland to remove some 300 plus car bodies. These belonged to my late father-in-law, Paul Moore. As we were talking about the farm, as it was known as at that time, Wince said “I’m not going to build the road, I am going to buy the place”. And there began my relationship with the Mayabb’s. I thank GOD everyday for all of you being apart of my life. When we were together, our conversations were always about family, religion, his dream and on occasions, politics. That dream is what we all witness each time we go to the race track. However, that dream is incomplete for the moment. Wince always told me he wanted to provide a location for the families of Wolfe County to enjoy with their families for dirt bikes, basketball, atv’s and exercising. The race track was always first and foremost for Kevin, Walt and family. We pray the rest of the dream will be completed in memory of Wince. Now we pray that you do RIP and thank GOD for Wince and his family for being a special part of our lives. Phyllis and Gail Henderson, Sr of Hazel Green.

My prayers go especially to Laura and to his 2 sons whom he was very proud of and loved them so much. Walt and Kevin I know that there is not words to express how you feel in losing your Father because I know that you were very close but just remember that you guys have made him very proud and that you got to share a dream with him, I remember that even when he was very young that he wanted to start a race track that would treat the drivers fairly. God bless you and keep you through the next few days which will be especially hard for you.
To Lola, Walt, Kevin and family, our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time in your lives. Words cannot express the feelings I felt when I learned of Wince’s passing. Stan and I both had been hit with a virus Saturday and were unable to be there with you guys and when I heard this my heart was broken. Wince has been a long time friend to me and especially our Step-father Paul H. Salyer. Paul passed away almost 4 years ago. Just a few weeks ago Wince and I were talking how Paul would have enjoyed coming to 191 and Wince stated how he wished Paul could have been part of it. I remember many occasions when we raced at the old Salyersville Speedway when Paul would have something break and not have the parts to fix it with and Wince and Joe would either have the part or head right back to Campton and get what was needed and repair the car in time for Paul to run the feature. Some people have stated already how Wince was one of a kind and that he was. It has been an honor to be able to work alongside with Wince and I know that He and Paul have a lot of catching up to do. If there is anything we can do just let us know.
God Bless you guys,
Your 191 Flagman Steve
There are many people u will come in contact with in this life. Some you will forget and some leave an impact on you forever. The first time we raced at 191 and met Wince and his family we knew we where home. Our prayers are with your family in your time of grief. Wince has finished his race and earth and entered into his eternal victory celebration in heaven with our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Save a place for us Wince we will see you again. May God send your family the comfort that he has promised us all in our time of need. God bless you and we love you, Bill & Stephanie Taulbee
No words can describe Wince. He loved people and would always go that extra mile to help anyone. He was a great influence on my life. He was the finest person I have ever known and I loved him like a brother. I will miss him and I hope he realized he was loved by everyone who knew him. There is a large hole in a lot of hearts and all we can do is be a friend to his family and help them in any way we can. Just remember, always help people and be kind, go that extra mile, lets all try to be more like Wince. Thanks to all the Mayabb family for sharing Wince with us all these years.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
My heart truly goes out to his entire family. Even the racing family he loved so much. I wish I would have gone to his race track to meet such a great man. Even though I never did I still lost a member of my family, the racin family. RIP Big you will be sadly missed.
While we were at the race track on Saturday nite, our hearts were saddened by the news of Wince Mayabbs death. We have soooo much enjoyed the works of Mr. Mayabb and his sons. I don’t think we have missed a Saturday nite, since May of this year, and that’s when I found out about the races. Hopefully, the races will continue. We will surely support them if they do. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family for for God’s comfort and help at this time.

Wince Was such a kind hearted working man. He was my 1st cousin and the loss was truly tragic. But he was doing what he loved, and he truly loved it. His life was took at such a young age. No words can describe how I feel. He was such a kind hearted loving person and would bring joy to anyone who came upon him. I am truly sorry for you Kevin,Walt,And Lola.I will never forget the times we shared together over the years. Wince will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and Prayers go out to the Mayabb family. Rest In Peace Wince.
Wince inspired so many people at all ages. I remember when i was only about 16 and I met Wince, he was always like, “come over to the garage and lets talk.” I was always so excited on Fridays after school or saturdays to go over to Winces garage and see all the stuff in his garage. He didn’t even really know me then, but he would invite me in and explain to me what these heads fit and what that intake would fit and so on. It was like a racers dream for a yong kid like me. One of my favorite memories is one Joe tells about when him and Wince were boys trying to calculate the number of times a bicycle tire was spinning in a period of time through the window of an old general store in town. If I remember correct, the one who got closest won the bicycle. They both had there theories on how to best calculate the answer and probabally ended up in a fight. It was a great story I will never forget. Over the years as many have said, any time i had a part break or forgot something, I would be like where in the world is Wince. And then he would come walking along, and smile and shake his head at me and say, “come on son, lets go see what we can find to get you going.” He always had plenty of advice and plenty of good stories to tell to make you laugh. I will never forget his laugh and all the cherished memories of him over the past 15 plus years. He wa such a good man, and our prayers are with Wince, Walt, Kevin, Lola, and all the entire Mayabb family. It was a honor to have called him my dear friend. Chris
I remember a conversation Wince and I had one night years ago. We had been discussing politics and the ill state of this area. Wince said “Son, if Kentucky was a dog, Wolfe County would be its tail” (back then his language was a little more salty, may have used a different word than “tail”) But unlike myself and most others around here, Wince was determined to make this a better place. Not only did he succeed in making his own life dream come true, he gave this area a gift that few have even realized. I have always been amazed at how many high school students I would hear say “this is how Wince showed me” or “Wince taught me this”. But since the track has opened, not one single hour passes in my shop that I don’t hear a young person praise Wince or his sons. Every Saturday night, I am pleased at the number of students and young people I see at the track, many of whom would be out doing something unproductive if not for 191. I wonder if Wince realized how many lives he touched and influenced.
Wolfe County, and all of eastern Kentucky, is a better place thanks to Wince. We are praying for peace and comfort for the entire family. So long for now my friend, you sir were a class act.
We were so sorry to hear about Wince I am his cousin and have always thought a lot of him. I am proud of all he has done in his lifetime and all the lives he has touched. You all are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Rest in Peace Wince.
I dont even know where to start with my Wince stories. Wince Mayabb is like my papa Red Creech he would line you in when you needed it and give you the shirt off your back at the same time. My brothers and I started racing back in the early 90s when we were just young kids. We basically lived at Winces if we werent at papas garage. WInce taught us life lessons through racing. It didnt matter if we needed a race car part, a big truck part, a generator or whatever for our old toter he help us convert from a road tractor. Wince would take us to it or help us build it. I dont know how many junk yards and race buddies Wince has took us to as kids. We would go to Stanley Haddixes, Randy Boggs’, Randy Ross’and many more places to get race parts. We would listen to story after story on our way up their and back. He knew every backroad and junk yard in this country which served as great opportunities for WInce’s lfe lessons and stories. It didnt matter if we were broke down on I-75 in that old race car toter or just needed a fitting Wince would take care of us boys.
AS I got older and started working with lots of our kids in this community as teacher and Principal Wince would still give me lessons in life. He was constantly saying, “now Tobe we need to get these kids involved in racing and other working on old cars to keep them out of trouble.” We had many discussions about his dream of 191 Speeedway and how he wanted to involve the kids and give them a safe place to learn an have fun.
Wince is certainly a leader. In my line of work as Principal I could not have asked for a better friend and mentor in life. Wince Mayabb has as big a part of me being wherer I am today as any body in my life. Wince was a true friend as well.
I am so fortunate to have been influenced by Wince Mayabb. I am also so happy that he and his two sons Kevin and Walt have made Wince’s dream, 191 Speedway, come true. Wince wanted to help the community and especially the kids and they have done that in a big way. My papa Reds garage and many other garages in the county are up and running with young kids working on race cars once again. I thank Wince Mayabb for creating interest for our youth. Keep up the good work Kevin and Walt and keep his dream alive.
